Project Name: Harrisburg Air Force Storage Facility
Project Duration: 10 Months
Location: Harrisburg, PA
Project Owner: City of Harrisburg
Project Description: Demolition & asbestos remediation of a former 1,000,000 sf Air Force storage facility.
Yannuzzi Group won the prestigious contract for the complete demolition and asbestos remediation of the massive 1,000,000 sf former Air Force storage facility outside of the Pennsylvania state capitol of Harrisburg.
The facility was located on a 70 acre site which included other operating buildings. One of the challenges that Yannuzzi faced was the utility disconnects and re-routing of the fire suppression system that had to be executed without interruption to the remaining nearby buildings. Another challenge was the harsh winter months. Asbestos abatement of over 800,000 sf of barrel roofing had to be implemented in record snowfall. Yannuzzi managed to keep ahead of schedule with an abatement crew of 35 working around the clock. Once the asbestos remediation was completed, Yannuzzi's group of engineers, project managers and crew, armed with an arsenal of modern cutting edge equipment, got to work on the demolishing and recycling of metal and concrete.
In the end, Yannuzzi Group processed 5,000 tons of rebar which was repurposed at our recycling facility and over 50,000 tons of concrete for backfill and completed the project ahead of schedule by 2 months. Yannuzzi's multi-talented team of field experts and multiple disciplines worked collectively to achieve another successful project.
