East & Davies Halls

Project Name: East & Davies Halls
Project Duration: 1 Month
Location: Blairstown, NJ
Project Owner: Blair Academy
Project Description: Dormitory hall and rock foundation removal and preparation for new education facility building.

Blair Academy reached out to Yannuzzi to perform demolition services for two historic dormitories on the campus. East and Davies Halls had been part of campus life since 1886, and were the location of many good memories. However, the needs of students and faculty evolve over time, and the building was no longer in keeping with Blair Academy’s commitment to providing the best education experience for their students.

Yannuzzi was proud to provide demolition services for the two dormitories in order to clear the way for a new, state-of-the-art education facility, the Center for Innovation and Collaboration (CIC). The newly constructed modern building will be the hub for Blair’s arts and technology classrooms, and will provide project-focused learning spaces that will allow the students at the Academy to thrive.

In order to minimize disruption to the students, Yannuzzi worked with the Academy to meet an aggressive demolition schedule. Yannuzzi utilized dust-free demolition practices to make certain that debris from the site did not migrate to other areas of the campus.

Safety is always a top priority, and is especially important when students are involved. Yannuzzi circled the site with fences to prevent curious students and faculty from wandering too close to the work site. Safety protocols were carefully followed to ensure that everyone—work teams, students and staff—had a safe environment in which to work and study.

Yannuzzi’s normal recycling procedures were modified to separate hundreds of bricks from the original structures so that they may be offered to alumni and staff as a memento of the great times that were had in the old buildings.

The demolition and recycling project took one month to complete, allowing the construction of the new building to begin quickly.
